Aspadol 100mg (Tapentadol)

Aspadol 100 mg tablet treats acute and chronic body pain following surgery, injury, and musculoskeletal pain. The medical use of Aspadol was approved by the FDA in 2008. It offers a quick-acting formula that delivers rapid pain relief within 30 minutes of ingestion. 

Aspadol is the brand name of Tapentadol, and works by blocking the transmission of pain signals from reaching the brain receptors, thus lowering the feeling of pain.

It should be taken in doses and durations as prescribed by your doctor or pharmacist. It's important to note that any change in the dosage strength should be done under medical supervision.

Aspadol is available in two dosage formulations-

• Aspadol Immediate Release (IR) Formula- These are formulated to disintegrate and dissolve rapidly after intake. It is commonly prescribed for short-term acute pain. 

• Aspadol Extended Release (ER) Formula- These are released in a controlled manner over a period of time after administration. The ER tablets help in managing chronic body pain. 

The intake of Aspadol 100mg tablets is effective for all its approved medical conditions. The maximum dosage and dosage interval are listed in the table below, depending on the formulation. 

If you forget to take your dosage, take it as soon as you remember. You can skip the missed dosage if it is time for the next dosage. Continue with the next dose at its scheduled time. 

Never take a double dose to make up for the missed dose. 

Symptoms of Aspadol overdosing include drowsiness, blurred vision, shallow breathing, and muscle weakness. If you think you have overdosed on Aspadol 100 mg, contact your doctor immediately.

It helps reduce the body's pain signal by binding to mu-opioid receptors in the brain. 

Aspadol inhibits the reuptake of Noradrenaline, a brain chemical messenger, that enhances the natural pain-inhibiting pathway. 

• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. 

• Do not break, cut, or chew the medicine before intake. 

• It can be taken with or without food. However, people with nausea should take it after a meal. 

• It works best when taken at a fixed time every day. 

The use of Aspadol is contraindicated in patients with the following health conditions. 

• If you have used antidepressants in the last 14 days. 

• If you have gastrointestinal obstruction, a condition that blocks the movement of liquid and food in the intestine. 

• If you are allergic to Tapentadol or any other ingredient in the Aspadol 100 mg tablet. 

The common side effects of Aspadol are vomiting, dizziness, nausea, constipation, and headache.

Get immediate medical attention or call 911 right away if you experience the following symptoms. 

• Rash.

• Hives.

• Chest pain.

• Feeling lightheaded.

• Loss of coordination.

Its use during pregnancy is not advisable. Prolonged use of Aspadol tablets during pregnancy can result in withdrawal symptoms in the newborn baby. 

Breastfeeding mothers shouldn't use aspadol 100 mg tablets. As it can enter the breast milk and have negative effects on the baby. 

Aspadol can cause dizziness and visual disturbances such as blurred vision. Thus, you should avoid driving and using heavy machinery while on the treatment. 

Taking Aspadol 100 mg tablet with alcohol can increase the risk of side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, and difficulty concentrating. 

Talk to your doctor if:

• You have a history of seizures, mental health disorders, or thyroid, liver, or kidney issues. 

• You have a history of abuse, as long-term use of Aspadol can cause dependency and addiction. 

• You are an elderly patient over the age of 65.

• The Aspadol 100 mg tablets should be stored in a cool, dry place. 

• Keep the medication out of reach of pets and children. 

• Expired and unwanted tablets can be disposed of by wrapping the medicine on a piece of paper before flushing it down the toilet. 

• Monitor for severe breathing troubles when taking the Aspadol ER tablet. 

• Its use should be avoided in patients with severe lung problems or asthma. 

• Do not change your dosage without consulting a doctor when taking ER tablets.  

• For pediatric patients and people below the age of 16, Aspadol is not advisable without a doctor’s consultation. 

Aspadol, when taken with other medications, can cause drug interactions. It may decrease, delay, or change how a medication works.

Tapentadol drug interaction can include 184 major, 190 moderate, and 1 minor interactions, as listed below. 

The only medication known to cause a minor interaction with Aspadol is evening primrose. To avoid any interaction, you should always tell the doctor if you are taking any other medicines or herbal supplements.
